[ PROCLAMATION NO. 302, July 25, 2023 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD OF 08 TO 14 AUGUST OF EVERY YEAR AS THE "PHILIPPINE SPACE WEEK"

WHEREAS, Section 17, Article II of the Constitution declares it a State policy to give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports, to foster patriotism and nationalism, accelerate social progress, and promote total human liberation and development;

WHEREAS, Section 2(b) of Republic Act No. 11363 pr the "Philippine Space Act," declares it a State policy to support and commit to the development, application, and utilization of science and technology that will foster patriotism and nationalism, and accelerate social progress, such as the development of space technology and applications for its security, for the benefit of its citizens;

WHEREAS, the "World Space Week" is an annual worldwide celebration facilitated by the United Nations every 04 to 10 October to celebrate the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition, educate the public about space activities, and foster international cooperation in space outreach and education;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Space Council recommended the declaration of 08 to 14 August of every year as the "Philippine Space Week," to coincide with the enactment of the Philippine Space Act on 08 August 2019, and to highlight the substantial influence of space science and technology applications on the socio-economic development of the country; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to promote space awareness, celebrate the significant contributions of Filipinos worldwide in the field of space science, and espouse the value, benefits and impacts of space science and technology applications on the lives of Filipinos;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND R,. MARCOS, JR. FERDINAND R,. MARCOS, JR., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby declare 08 to 14 August of every year as the "Philippine Space Week."

For this purpose, the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is directed to promote the observation of the Philippine Space Week, and identify the programs, projects and activities for the yearly celebration thereof.

All other agencies and instrumentalities of the National Government, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and state universities and colleges, are hereby enjoined, and all local government units, non-government organizations, as well as the private sector, are hereby encouraged, to actively participate and render the necessary support and assistance to the PhilSA for the effective implementation of this Proclamation.
