DECLARING PALAUI ISLAND AND SURROUNDING WATERS SITUATED IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF STA. ANA, PROVINCE OF CAGAYAN, ISLAND OF LUZON, AS MARINE RESERVE

Upon recommendation of the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, and pursuant to the powers vested in me by law, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby set aside, for the benefit and enjoyment of the Filipino people, subject to private rights, if there are any, Palaui Island and surrounding islets and marine waters, situated in the Municipality of Sta. Ana, Province of Cagayan, as shown in the DENR Map. No. ___ found within the following geographic coordinates as follows:

From Point 1 18°3255.135" N latitude, 122°1114.460" E longitude

to Pt. 2 18°3544.108" N latitude, 122°1006.818" E longitude

to Pt. 3 18°3615” N latitude, 120°0824.6" E longitude

to Pt. 4 18°3448” N latitude, 122°0604.8" E longitude

to Pt. 5 18°2735.88" N latitude, 122°0608” E longitude

to Pt. 6 18° 2935.88? N latitude, 122°0723.4" E longitude

to Pt. 1 18°3255.135" N latitude, 122°1114.46" E longitude

containing an approximate area of 7,415.48 hectares as a marine protected area.

The said area shall be known as “Palaui Island Marine Reserve” and which shall fall under the Protected Landscape/Seascape category of the IPAS. The site shall be under the administration and control of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources provided that it shall exercise joint administration with the Philippine Navy over that portion set aside as military reservation under Presidential Proclamation No. 201, dated 22 May 1967.1aшphi1

The primary purpose for the establishment of the marine reserve is to protect and conserve the ecological, biological scenic, scientific, and educational features of the area. Sustained development of the area shall be pursued to address the social and economic needs of the local communities without causing adverse impact on the environment.

The destruction of the terrestrial and marine ecosystems, including the mangroves, coral reefs and seagrass beds, or any other activity, which could disturb or destroy these ecosystems and/or resources are hereby prohibited.
