[ Proclamation No. 434, July 28, 1989 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JULY 30 TO AUGUST 5, 1989 AS “PHILIPPINE NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK”

WHEREAS, the provision of safe and adequate drinking water to all barangays in the Philippines is a major concern of the government;

WHEREAS, the government has a multi-pronged system for delivery of drinking water through its instrumentalities such as the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Local Water Utilities Administration, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System and the Department of Local Government;

WHEREAS, in this undertaking, non-governmental organizations like the Tulungan sa Tubigan Foundation, Inc. and private sector groups like the Samahan sa Pagawaing Tubig-Inumin ng Pilipinas or Philippine Water Works Association, Inc. are actively assisting and participating;

WHEREAS, on July 30, 1989, the Local Water Utilities Administration will hold a Water District Forum on the theme, “Potable Water for Every Filipino”;

WHEREAS, on July 31, 1989 to August 1, 1989, the Philippine Water Works Association will hold the Third Philippine Water Congress and Exhibition (Philwater ’89) on the theme, “Government and Private Partnership in Water Supply Development”;

WHEREAS, the Rain Water Cistern Systems will hold its Fourth International Conference on August 2-4, 1989 on the theme, “The Community and Rain Water Cistern Systems”; and

WHEREAS, on these occasions, it is but fitting to highlight, focus on and recognize the joint efforts of the government, the private sector and the international community to provide safe and adequate water supply to all people;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from July 30 to August 5, 1989 as “Philippine National Drinking Water Week” under the auspices of the Samahan sa Pagawaing Tubig-Inumin ng Pilipinas or Philippine Water Works Association, Inc. and all organizations, private and public, with which they work.1aшphi1
