DECLARING THE MONTH OF JUNE 1989 AS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MONTH

WHEREAS, Information Technology, the convergence of computer technology, telecommunications and office systems technology, is now recognized as a major factor for accelerating social and economic development;

WHEREAS, the national government, cognizant of the importance of Information Technology as one of the major factors for accelerating social and economic development, has resolved to develop fully and implement a national government program that will optimize the utilization of Information Technology and facilities;

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus public awareness on this current technology;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of June 1989 as “Information Technology Month” under the auspices of the National Computer Center and the Philippine Computer Society, with the cooperation of other organizations that are involved in Information Technology development in the country.

I call upon all government agencies/instrumentalities and non-government organizations to extend full support to the observance of Information Technology Month.1aшphi1

I likewise call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of race and creed, to give the observance of the month their full support.
