DECLARING THE MONTH OF MAY OF EVERY YEAR AS “FARMERS’ AND FISHERMEN’S MONTH”

WHEREAS, the government has accorded highest priority to the development of agriculture and fishery, not only to achieve an equitable distribution of benefits and opportunities, but also to enable the farmers and fishermen to maximize their contribution to the nation’s wealth;

WHEREAS, the Filipino farmers and fishermen, who constitute half of the national labor force, play a major role in economic recovery by contributing a quarter to the gross domestic product and generating 40% of the country’s export revenues;

WHEREAS, our farmers and fishermen deserve due recognition for their invaluable contribution to nation-building;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the month of May of every year as “Farmers’ and Fishermen’s Month”, under the auspices of the Department of Agriculture.1aшphi1
