AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 2270 DATED FEBRUARY 21, 1983 BY REVIVING THE CELEBRATION OF INVENTORS WEEK DURING THE LAST FULL WEEK OF FEBRUARY OF EVERY YEAR AND DECLARING 1989 AND 1993 AND EVERY FIVE YEARS THEREAFTER AS INVENTION FESTIVAL YEARS.
WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 187 dated March 28, 1967, as amended by Proclamation No. 2270 dated February 21, 1983, declared the celebration of “Inventors Week” during the last week of February of every year;
WHEREAS, Inventors Week was not celebrated last February 1988 due to the abolition of the Philippine Invention Development Institute, the government agency in charge of the said celebration;
WHEREAS, the First and Second Festival of Philippine Inventions, which were successfully held in 1978 and 1980, brought Filipino inventions to international attention; and
WHEREAS, the Filipino Inventors Society (FIS) and the Likhaan Institute Foundation, Inc., twin organizations dedicated to the promotion and development of local inventions, have underscored an urgent need to revive the celebration of Inventors Week and the Festival of Inventions in order to promote inventive and innovative activities with a view to strengthening local technological capacities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the last full week of February and every year thereafter as Inventors Week and further declare 1989 and 1993 and every five years thereafter as “Festival Years” of Filipino Inventions to coincide with the two-stage Golden Celebration of the Filipino Inventors Society (FIS), under the auspices of the Filipino Inventors Society, the Likhaan Institute Foundation, Inc., and other related organizations.
I call on all government agencies and offices, as well as business, commerce, agriculture and industry sectors and non-government organizations, to extend every possible support, assistance and cooperation in making the celebration of the week a success.1aшphi1
This Proclamation amends Proclamation No. 2270, series of 1983.
