CHANGING THE NAME OF THE PAN-PHILIPPINE HIGHWAY INTO THE MAHARLIKA HIGHWAY

WHEREAS, the Pan-Philippine Highway by spanning the entire length of the Philippine archipelago has brought every part of the country into closer contact with one another.

WHEREAS, in this sense, the Pan-Philippine Highway liberates the Filipino people from isolation from one another and makes possible the true unification of the whole nation as envisaged in the national slogan of “Isang Bansa, Isang Diwa.”

WHEREAS, to celebrate and commemorate this physical accessibility of every part of this Republic through the Pan-Philippine Highway we have undertaken the greening of the right of way that will be traversed by the highway, integrating into this one project both transportation progress ecological and environmental restoration.

WHEREAS, school children who are our Nation’s future will be engaged in this tree-planting program to green the Pan-Philippine Highway.1aшphi1

WHEREAS, in view of its catalytic effect and role in the future of our nation, there is need to give the Pan-Philippine Highway a name more symbolic and indicative of its role as a road to freedom, a path toward a better tomorrow, and a unifying factor in our national aspirations to greatness and dignity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim and declare the change of name of the Pan-Philippine Highway into the Maharlika Highway.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
