[ Proclamation No. 1891, August 30, 1979 ]
DECLARING BUCAS GRANDE ISLANDS WITHIN THE SIARGAO ISLAND GROUP OF SURIGAO DEL NORTE AS TOURISM AREA AND PROHIBITING THE EXPLORATION, EXPLOITATION OR DISPOSITION OF THE LANDS AND NATURAL RESOURCES FOUND THEREIN.
WHEREAS, the Bucas Grande Islands within the Siargao Island Group of Surigao del Norte are noted for their natural beauty and richness in natural resources which could be preserved or developed for tourism purposes;
WHEREAS, among other natural attractions in the area is the famous Sojoton Cave which can compare with famous tourist spots in other places in the world; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to preserve the natural beauty of this area in line with country’s tourism development program;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the Bucas Grande Islands within the Siargao Island Group of Surigao del Norte as a tourism area under the administration of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Natural Resources.1aшphi1
All exploration or exploitation of minerals and other natural resources in the area are hereby prohibited and no titling of public lands within the area shall be allowed and that natural formations shall not be destroyed or disturbed except for tourism development as may be authorized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Proclamation No. 721 dated July 9, 1970, entitled “RELEASING FROM THE OPERATION OF PROCLAMATION NO. 391 DATED MARCH 13, 1939 THE ISLAND OF SIARGAO AND ALL THE ISLETS PERTAINING TO IT IN THE PROVINCE OF SURIGAO DEL NORTE, ISLAND OF MINDANAO, PHILIPPINES,” is hereby amended and all other orders, proclamations, rules and regulations inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed or modified accordingly.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
