[ Proclamation No. 1877, August 6, 1979 ]

AUTHORIZING THE LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION OF THE PHILIPPINES, INC. TO CONDUCT AN EDUCATIONAL AND FUND CAMPAIGN FROM MAY 1, 1979 TO APRIL 30, 1980.

WHEREAS, Leukemia remains as one of the deadliest forms of cancer ailments with an alarming increase in yearly mortality among our people;

WHEREAS, the only known treatments for this disease of the blood require processes and drugs that are way beyond the reach of our indigent and low-income citizens;

WHEREAS, in the interest of safeguarding the health of its citizens and preventing the loss of valuable and productive human resources, the government should support all efforts to make these treatments available to everyone; and

WHEREAS, the Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines, Inc., has successfully stirred and focussed the public’s attention on the need to fight and curb this dangerous disease and, therefore, needs the support and assistance of all sectors to continue its worthy objectives;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Leukemia Foundation of the Philippines, Inc., to conduct an educational and fund campaign from May 1, 1979 to April 30, 1980.1aшphi1

I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to give generously and participate actively in this campaign.

All donations and contributions to the Anti-Leukemia Educational and Fund Campaign shall be exempt from income and gift taxes, and the same shall constitute allowable deductions from the income of the donors and contributors for income tax purposes.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
