[ Proclamation No. 1853, May 5, 1979 ]

DECLARING MONDAY, MAY 7, 1979, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN REGIONS IX AND XII.

WHEREAS, the election for the Sangguniang Pampook (regional assemblies) in Regions Nine and Twelve as provided for by Batas Pambansa Blg. 20, signed into law on March 23, 1979, falls on Monday, May 7, 1979; and

WHEREAS, to enable government officials, employees, students and laborers employed in private firms to participate in the election on May 7, 1979 in Regions IX and XII, it is necessary to proclaim said date as special public holiday;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare May 7, 1979, as special public holiday in Regions IX and XII.
