[ Proclamation No. 1814, January 23, 1979 ]

AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE CANCER SOCIETY, INC. TO CONDUCT A NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL, MEMBERSHIP AND FUND DRIVE DURING THE PERIOD FROM NOVEMBER 1, 1978 TO DECEMBER 31, 1979.

WHEREAS, the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc., the lone socio-medical organization committee to the prevention and control of cancer, envisions the extension of its free medical services through its Cancer Divisions in the provinces, the establishment of Therapy Center in medical centers for cancer patients, the intensification of its educational campaign for cancer awareness, the maintenance of its Cancer Detection and Diagnostic Center and the putting up of a national cancer hospital offering complete treatment facilities;

WHEREAS, statistics gathered by the Society from various local clinic and hospitals show that the prevalence of cancer is increasing every year; and

WHEREAS, in order to carry out these expanded services of the Society, it needs the continued support and cooperation of the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Philippine Cancer Society, Inc. to conduct a national educational, membership and fund drive during the period from November 1, 1978 to December 30, 1979. I call upon all the citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race or creed, to assist in this humanitarian endeavor by giving generously of their means and reiterate that all donations or contribution given to this charitable cause shall be exempt from income and gift taxes as provided by Presidential Decree No. 507.1aшphi1
