[ Proclamation No. 1765-a, August 10, 1978 ]

DECLARING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1978, AS A DAY OF MOURNING OVER THE DEATH OF POPE PAUL VI AND DIRECTING THAT THE NATIONAL FLAG BE LOWERED AT HALF-MAST ON THE DAY OF HIS FUNERAL.

WHEREAS, Pope Paul VI, the highest official of the Catholic Church and apostle of international peace and understanding died on August 7, 1978 in Rome; and

WHEREAS, it may be recalled that on November 27, 1970, Pope Paul VI, the first Pope to travel outside Italy, paid a visit to our country, a distinct honor that shall be remembered and treasured in the memory of our people;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Monday, November 27, 1978, as a day of mourning in the Philippines.

I hereby direct that the National Flag be lowered at half-mast on the day of his funeral.1aшphi1
