[ Proclamation No. 1731, April 30, 1978 ]

DECLARING MAY 7-12, 1978, AS ASEAN TRADE FORTNIGHT.

WHEREAS, the Philippines is a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which is designated to promote cooperation and collaboration in the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the member nations;

WHEREAS, the development and promotion of ASEAN trade among themselves and between ASEAN and their non-ASEAN partners require concerted cooperation and collaboration among ASEAN manufacturers, businessmen and traders;

WHEREAS, the ASEAN Trade Fair scheduled in Manila of May 7-12, 1978, is the first officially organized activity of both the ASEAN Government sectors, through the Committee of Trade and Tourism of the ASEAN Economic Ministers, and the private sectors through the ASEAN Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ASEAN CCI);

WHEREAS, there is a necessity to encourage continuing support and awareness of this affair as a contributing factor towards the development of the objectives, plans and programs of the ASEAN;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare May 7-21, 1978, as ASEAN Trade Fortnight and enjoin all government agencies and private manufacturers, exporters, traders, businessmen, organizations and individuals to give this ASEAN Trade Fortnight proper observance and support.

It is further enjoined that all government officials and employees, private individuals and students try to and/or encourage visits to the ASEAN Trade Fair ’78 at Philcite, CCP Complex, to familiarize themselves with ASEAN products and develop consciousness for ASEAN economic development and performance.
