BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 1703, January 12, 1978 ]

WHEREAS, the Province of Batangas was established on January 15, 1581 by the Agustinian Order with Balayan as its first capital;

WHEREAS, the National Historical Institute, evidenced by the official proclamation by its Chairman, Dr. Esteban de Ocampo, concurs with, supports and certified to the aforementioned fact;

WHEREAS, it behooves us to instill in all our citizens a sense of history so that they may profit by the indelible lessons it teaches and take great pride in our traditions and accomplishments;

WHEREAS, we are similarly charged with providing our youth with guidance and with exemplary models of outstanding citizens to emulate and which has motivated the Batangas Provincial Government to initiate the conferment of the “Dangal ng Batangas” award on the province’s most illustrious living sons and daughters;

WHEREAS, the awarding will fittingly be made on the 397th Foundation Day of the province on January 16, 1978 to lend both the rites and the anniversary celebrations more significance and meaning;

NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the powers vested in me as President of the Republic of the Philippines, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, proclaim January 16 as the Foundation Day of Batangas Province.1aшphi1

I further proclaim that this date be made a Special Public Holiday in the Province of Batangas this year and every year thereafter.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
