DECLARING THE PERIOD JANUARY 9 TO 15 OF EVERY YEAR AS “TRIBUTE TO LAPU-LAPU WEEK”

WHEREAS, the tradition and spirit of Filipino nationalism and valor draw their original inspiration from the deed of Datu Lapu-Lapu of Mactan when he repulsed the attempts of invasion of the Spanish expedition headed by Ferdinand Magellan;

WHEREAS, the contribution of Datu Lapu-Lapu to the molding of the Filipino character needs emphasis especially at this time when the New Society is engaged in establishing the Filipino identity and in rekindling the pride of the Filipino in his own history and culture;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution, do hereby Proclaim the period January 9 to 15 of this year and every year thereafter as “TRIBUTE TO LAPU-LAPU WEEK,” and for this purpose I hereby direct all national and local institutions concerned to observe this occasion, and call upon all citizens of the Philippines to participate therein.1aшphi1
