DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 1, 1977 TO NOVEMBER 30, 1978, AS FITNESS THROUGH WEIGHTLIFTING YEAR AND AUTHORIZING THE PHILIPPINE WEIGHTLIFTING ASSOCIATION TO CONDUCT A FUND DRIVE DURING THAT PERIOD
WHEREAS, weightlifting is one of the sports event in which the Philippines has shown and gained medals in world and international competitions;
WHEREAS, weightlifting as a physical fitness regimen merits broader support and more active participation by the people;
WHEREAS, weightlifting has been integrated in the Department of Education’s Integrated National Physical Fitness and Sports Development Program;
WHEREAS, weightlifting is one of the sports included in the National Physical Fitness and Sports for Mass Propagation Development Program;
WHEREAS, the Philippine will host the 2nd World/1st Asian/1st ASEAN Youth Invitational and 4th ASEAN Weightlifting Championships where 40 countries, including 5 from the Iron Curtain and 7 from the Islamic Conference, were invited to participate in the competitions which will be held from March 29 to April 2, 1978; and
WHEREAS, there is an urgent need to raise funds to enable the Philippine Weightlifting Association to stage with rousing success the above championships and to give its all-out support to the above programs and expand its own programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from December 1, 1977 to November 30, 1978, as Fitness Through Weightlifting Year and authorize the Philippine Weightlifting Association to conduct a fund drive during the same period. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality or creed, to extend their fullest support to this campaign by giving generously of their means. It also authorize government officials and employees to accept for Philippine Weightlifting Association fund raising responsibilities and to give it active support and leadership in their respective capacities.1aшphi1
