[ Proclamation No. 1547, May 18, 1976 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 7 TO 12, 1976, AND EVERY SECOND WEEK OF JUNE THEREAFTER AS ARBOR WEEK

WHEREAS, man is dependent upon forest trees and cultivated plants for his sustenance and comfort; but trees are wantonly destroyed without benefit to anyone, because majority of our people are not adequately informed of their importance; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to set aside a week each year so that through appropriate ceremonies and actual replanting, the people’s attention could be drawn to the importance of trees and plants in their everyday life and their interest awakened;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim the period from June 7 to 12, 1976, and every second week of June thereafter, as ARBOR WEEK, to be observed throughout the nation by planting trees and plants.

All Cabinet members and heads of bureaus, offices, agencies and instrumentalities of the Government are hereby enjoined to lead in the tree-planting activities at proper ceremonies within their respective jurisdictions. Heads of Barangays and principals of schools are likewise instructed to require their constituents/students to collect seeds of acacia, fruit and other trees of economic value for the purpose.

Proclamation No. 129, dated March 5, 1955, is hereby amended accordingly.1aшphi1
