[ Proclamation No. 1546, May 14, 1976 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM MAY 17 TO 23, 1976 AND EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “NATURAL RESOURCES CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK.”

WHEREAS, it is a primary objective of the government to conserve, revitalize and develop the country’s national wealth and manage its utilization for the continued well-being of present and future generations;

WHEREAS, such an objective can be realized through the involvement of the citizenry so that they may be cognizant of the status of our natural resources, their finite and renewable nature, and the development programs pursued by the government; and

WHEREAS, such an involvement and awareness of the citizenry of the status of our country’s varied and rich natural resources and the government’s efforts to develop these resources will enhance our people’s sense of national pride and dignity;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from May 17 to 23, 1976, and every year thereafter as Natural Resources Consciousness Week, under the auspices of the Department of Natural Resources. I urge all citizens to help celebrate this week in an appropriate manner to encourage Filipinos to appreciate nature’s blessings and to initiate actions so that this generation and those to come may continue to enjoy these endowments.
