DECLARING 1976 AS DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR COMMEMORATING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

WHEREAS, 1976 is the seventy-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine educational system under Act No. 74 promulgated by the Philippine Commission on January 21, 1901;

WHEREAS, the Philippine educational system has to a great extent contributed to the growth and development of the country;

WHEREAS, it is desirable to apprise the people of the achievements of the Philippines in education and of the progress she has made through education;

WHEREAS, it would be advantageous to indicate lines of further growth and advancement of the system as an instrument of national development; and

WHEREAS, educators in and out of the government have made representations for the proper observance of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine educational system and for setting aside the period from January 1 to December 31, 1976, as the Year of the Celebration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim the period from January first to December thirty-first, nineteen hundred and seventy-six, as the “Diamond Jubilee Year to commemorate the establishment of the Philippine Educational System” under Act No. 74 of 1901.

I call upon all government entities and instrumentalities to participate in the celebration and invite private institutions and individuals to join in making the celebration fruitful.

I hereby further declare January 21, 1976, as the Diamond Jubilee Day in commemoration of the date of the enactment of Act No. 74 establishing the Philippine Educational System.1aшphi1

The Education Week being observed in September of every year under Proclamation No. 123 dated April 22, 1949, shall be Celebration made to coincide with the Diamond Jubilee

The following are hereby constituted into a national committee on the diamond anniversary of Philippine educational system charged with the preparation and implementation of a year-long program to make the celebration meaningful:
