DECLARING THE FIRST WEEK OF MAY AS CROP PROTECTION WEEK

WHEREAS, the Government is continuously engaged in massive production of food and commercial crops;

WHEREAS, the yearly damage caused by pests and other infestations on crops, stored grains, forest and other agricultural products adversely affects the economy of the country;

WHEREAS, farmers must be aware of beneficial effects of farm inputs like fertilizers and pesticides, especially on the environment and the quality of life;

WHEREAS, there is continuing research for scientific means of crop protection; and

WHEREAS, national attention ought to be focused on the need for wider utilization of scientific means for crop protection, for the overriding benefit to the national economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the first week of May, 1975 as Crop Protection Week throughout the Philippines. I therefore enjoin all public and private offices and entities to encourage and grant official sanction to their personnel concerned to participate in crop protection and pest control conferences in the interest of advancing science and technology on crop protection.
