[ Proclamation No. 1422, April 24, 1975 ]

DESIGNATING THE PERIOD FROM MAY 1 TO DECEMBER 31, 1975, AS THE PERIOD FOR THE NATIONAL CAPITAL FUND CAMPAIGN OF THE YOUNG MEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (YMCA)

WHEREAS, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of the Philippines was organized in 1911 as a character-building, leadership training, and youth-serving civic organization;

WHEREAS, it has pioneered in the construction of student dormitories, gymnasiums, swimming pools, play courts, recreational facilities, meetings and social halls for the use of the youth;

WHEREAS, it sponsored training of physical directors, physical fitness programs, athletics and sports development, introduced basketball and volleyball, boys camping, youth conferences and workcamps and various community services;

WHEREAS, the leadership of the YMCA has been in the hands of outstanding citizens such as Teodoro R. Yangco, Rafael Palma, Manuel Camus, Jose Abad Santos, Conrado Benitez, Dr. Gumersindo Garcia and others;

WHEREAS, the YMCA has always identified itself with the goals and aspirations of the people in the program of nation-building; and

WHEREAS, encouraged and inspired by the creation of the Department of Youth and Sports Development, whose objectives are also the YMCA’s primary purposes, it now desires to modernize its present buildings and facilities and construct additional ones in order to meet the needs of its expansion program through public support;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby designate the period from May 1 to December 31, 1975 as the period fro the 1975 National Capital Fund Campaign of the Young Men’ s Christian Association of the Philippines. I call upon all government officials, employees, citizens and residents to assist in this campaign and to give it their wholehearted support.1aшphi1
