DECLARING THE MONTH OF MAY OF EVERY YEAR AS “TOURISM CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH”

WHEREAS, the development of tourism in the country has been accelerated with the creation of the Department of Tourism by Presidential Decree No. 189, which, as a resource base for foreign exchange, has been contributing much to the economic growth and well-being of our country and people;

WHEREAS, tourism also serves as an effective means of disseminating information – – about our country, the history of our people, and our tradition, heritage, and culture – – not only to foreign tourists and travellers, but also to our countrymen, especially the Youth who should be encouraged to travel and “See the Philippines” to experience for themselves the beauty and splendor of our countrysides, and nurture in them a feeling of belonging and pride in our motherland;

WHEREAS, there is need to sustain the development of tourism and to bring into the consciousness of all the citizens and residents of the Philippines the important role that tourism plays in the life of the nation.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by the Constitution do hereby Proclaim the month of May of this year and of every year thereafter, as “TOURISM CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH,” and for this purpose, I hereby direct the Department of Tourism to lead in the observance of this occasion, and call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality and creed, to participate therein.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
