DECLARING 28 APRIL TO 3 MAY 1975 AS “MATHEMATICS WEEK”

WHEREAS, the Mathematics Society of the Philippines and the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society are holding a Summer Institute in Mathematics in the Philippines from 21 April to 16 May 1975 in order to present a series of relevant and modern topics in mathematic and mathematical education;

WHEREAS, the science of mathematics is indispensable in the practice and study of development-oriented areas like economics, demography, finance, management, and the natural and social sciences;

WHEREAS, the application of mathematics is essential for the development of the country’s technology and industry;

WHEREAS, it is in the national interest to stimulate a deeper interest and awareness in mathematics in order to establish the Philippines as the center of sciences in Southeast Asia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MAROCS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare April 28 to May 3, 1975 as “MATHEMATICS WEEK” under the auspices of the Mathematics Society of the Philippines to ensure the fitting observance of the occasion.
