[ Proclamation No. 1398, March 13, 1975 ]

DECLARING 1975 AS “FOOD CONSERVATION YEAR” AND EVERY JANUARY OF EACH YEAR THEREAFTER AS “FOOD CONSERVATION MONTH.”

WHEREAS, the food crisis obtaining in some parts of the world continues to threaten many developing nations including the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Government in response to this worldwide crisis, has undertaken various programs aimed at providing the food requirements of the people;

WHEREAS, it is of utmost importance to stress the importance of food conservation as a key to the attainment of self-sufficiency in food;

WHEREAS, all institutions, organizations and agencies, whether public or private, must join hands with the government to complement the latter’s effort not only to increase the country’s food supply, but also to promote food conservation; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to keep the Filipino people ever conscious of and concerned about programs aimed at food sufficiency;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare 1975 as “Food Conservation Year” and every January of each year thereafter as “Food Conservation Month,” and I call upon all our citizens, churches, schools and civic organizations to observe the same with appropriate ceremonies.
