[ Proclamation No. 1259, May 2, 1974 ]

DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF SEPTEMBER OF EVERY YEAR AS DESIGN CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK.

WHEREAS, exports of cottage industry products have steadily risen to such an extent that the industry now occupies the sixth position among the country’s top ten exports;

WHEREAS, the industry’s export position can be maintained only through continuous upgrading of product design, quality and adaptability to functional needs and aesthetic tastes of the foreign market;

WHEREAS, a break-through in organized and coordinated efforts towards products design improvement and quality control has been made with the creation of the Design Center Philippines, which marks the first year of its existence on September 16, 1974.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROBERTO V. REYES, Acting Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from September 16 to 22 of every year as Design Consciousness Week under the auspices of the Design Center Philippines and other involved entities.
