[ Proclamation No. 1256, April 18, 1974 ]

DECLARING THE SECOND WEEK OF MAY AS CROP PROTECTION WEEK

WHEREAS, the Government is presently engaged in a massive food production program like the Masagana 99, Palayan ng Bayan, Masaganang Maisan, and the Green Revolution, as well as the increased production of commercial crops;

WHEREAS, the damage caused by pests and other infestations on agricultural crops, forest and forest products, stored grains and other agricultural products is of such economic magnitude that it adversely affects the economy of the country;

WHEREAS, the need to protect these crops and for the effective control of these pests, such as insects, rodents, plant pathogens, weeds, etc., must be a continuing concern of research scientists and technologists, pest control operators and pesticide companies and the general public;

WHEREAS, in the use of farm inputs, like fertilizers and pesticides, the farmers must be aware not only of its beneficial effects, but as well as its effects on the environment such that the stability of human and benevolent animal life is not adversely affected; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable that national attention be focused on the need for wider utilization of the current advances in crop protection science and technology for the benefit of the national economy;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the second week of May, 1974, as Crop Protection Week and enjoin all public and private offices and institutions to encourage and grant official sanction to their personnel concerned to attend and participate in national crop protection and pest control conferences in the interest of advancing our science and technology on crop protection.1aшphi1
