[ Proclamation No. 1211, November 27, 1973 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 7 TO 15, 1973 AND THE SECOND WEEK OF DECEMBER OF EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “ATOMIC ENERGY WEEK.”

WHEREAS, mankind in the past decade has witnessed unprecedented advances in science and technology brought about by the utilization of atomic energy as a versatile tool in research and development;

WHEREAS, mankind today faces not merely a threat but an actual worldwide shortage of energy producing fossil fuels;

WHEREAS, a major source of power is nuclear energy;

WHEREAS, there is a need to accelerate the pace of atomic energy development in the country if we are to succeed in our quest for nation building;

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that public attention should be focused on, and national consciousness be manifested for, the role of atomic energy towards attaining the goals and objectives of a progressive and developed Philippines under the aegis of the New Society;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from December 7 to 15, 1973 and the second week of December of every year thereafter, as “Atomic Energy Week” throughout the country and hereby direct the Philippine Atomic Energy Commission, a government agency charged with promoting and advancing the beneficial uses of atomic energy in the Philippines, to undertake such activities as maybe necessary to ensure the successful observance thereof.
