[ Proclamation No. 1186, September 27, 1973 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 7 TO 13, 1973, AS HISPANIC WEEK.

WHEREAS, the National Federation of Spanish Professors, in coordination with the Department of Education and Culture, is holding a series of activities in observance of “Dia de la Hispanidad” which falls on October 12,1973;

WHEREAS, the occasion marks the introduction of Spanish culture and civilization into the New World, and is observed worldwide in all countries bearing Spanish cultural influence;

WHEREAS, the Philippines is among the countries whose early civilization, heritage and culture trace their roots to Spanish origin;

WHEREAS, there is need to invite and focus public attention to the forthcoming celebration to remind our people of the lasting contribution of Spain to our politico-socio-cultural development and growth as a nation, as well as to enhance our historical and cultural ties with the Spanish-speaking world; and

WHEREAS, the observance of the occasion will give meaning to our cultural heritage from Spain, even as it should accentuate the Government’s efforts toward international goodwill and understanding;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from October 7 to 18, 1973, as Hispanic Week or “Semana Hispanica.1aшphi1
