[ Proclamation No. 1136, May 3, 1973 ]

DECLARING MAY 12 TO JUNE 12, 1973, AS THE PERIOD TO CELEBRATE THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

WHEREAS, June 12, 1973, marks the Diamond Jubilee of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence;

WHEREAS, this celebration of Philippine Independence will be the first under the New Society; and

WHEREAS, it is but fitting and proper to ensure a nationwide awareness and involvement in the celebration of a major milestone in the history of the Republic and to project the goals and objectives of the New Society;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare May 12 to June 12, 1973, as the period to celebrate the diamond anniversary of Philippine Independence and hereby direct the Committee created under Executive Order No. 408 dated March 20, 1973, to undertake measures to carry out the successful observance of this occasion and I enjoin all levels of the government — national, provincial, city, municipal and barrio — and the ecumenical church, all schools and civic and business organizations to actively participate.
