[ Proclamation No. 1004, April 30, 1972 ]

DECLARING SUNDAY, MAY 7, 1972, A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER FOR PEACE.

WHEREAS, the promotion of universal and national peace is among the highest goals of government, in the Philippines and in the rest of the world community;

WHEREAS, that goal has all too often lost its relevance in a world beset by bitterness, dissension and random violence;

WHEREAS, particularly in these trying days, it is time to make a reaffirmation of our commitment to that goal, with all the will and the sincerity that this nation can muster;

WHEREAS, that reaffirmation can best be made through a day of prayer for peace;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim Sunday, May 7, 1972, a National Day of Prayer for Peace.

All churches, religious communities, and religious and civic organizations throughout the Philippines are requested to commemorate the day fittingly by encouraging their faithful to participate in this day of prayer, emphasizing the need for peace not only in our world but in each and every community of our country itself.

All government departments, offices and agencies throughout the Philippines, including provincial, city, and municipal governments, are enjoined to commemorate the day with suitable activities among their personnel.1aшphi1
