[ Proclamation No. 862, June 5, 1971 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 6 TO 12 OF EVERY YEAR AS “I AM a FILIPINO WEEK.”

WHEREAS, a positive attitude on the traits of the Filipino and the Filipino way of life during these times of national stress will stir our people’s pride of their nationality and stimulate consciousness of their duties and privileges as Filipino citizens; and

WHEREAS, a fitting period to focus attention on the citizen’s role in nation-building is the week preceding Independence Day;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from June 6 to 12, of every year as “I AM a FILIPINO WEEK”. All citizens are enjoined to display the Filipino Flag in their homes, offices, buildings and vehicles; wear the Filipino costume; speak Pilipino and otherwise do all things necessary or desirable to manifest pride of their race and country.
