[ Proclamation No. 858, May 25, 1971 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 14 TO 20, 1971, AS “NATIONAL INTEGRATION WEEK.”

WHEREAS, it is the declared government policy to integrate and assimilate the cultural minorities into the national mainstream;

WHEREAS, the Commission on National Integration, which was created in 1957, has made great strides towards such integration; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to focus national attention on the cultural minorities and enhance mutual understanding and respect for each other’s culture;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, in recognition of the necessity of effecting in a more rapid and complete manner the economic, social moral and political advancement of the cultural minorities and their integration into the body politic, do hereby declare the period from June 14 to 20, 1971, as “National Integration Week”.
