DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 21 TO 27, 1971, AS SAVINGS AND THRIFT WEEK.

WHEREAS, the prosecution of the nation’s socio-economic program depends, to an appreciable extent, on the utilization of the people’s savings for the financing of enterprises vital to the economic uplift of the people;

WHEREAS, capital formation can be effectively attained through a rigorous campaign for savings among our people to accelerate our program for economic development; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable to draw the attention of the people to the importance of practicing thrift for future security and as a matter of patriotic duty;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALEJANDRO MELCHOR, Executive Secretary, by order of His Excellency, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from June 21 to 27, 1971, as Savings and Thrift Week under the auspices of the Central Bank of the Philippines, the Savings Banks Association (Philippines) and the Bankers Association of the Philippines. I call upon all the people to lend their cooperation and support in making the savings and thrift campaign a success.
