[ Proclamation No. 726, July 27, 1970 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM 1970 TO 1980 AS “BUY PILIPINO DECADE”

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the government to accelerate the development of trade and industry as a vital factor in the growth of our country’s economy;

WHEREAS, the government is now intensifying efforts to industrialize and expand trade, especially the exportation of locally finished products;

WHEREAS, Made-in-the-Philippines products have acquired appreciable quality comparable to like imported goods; and

WHEREAS, it is important at this stage of our development to stimulate greater patriotism among our industrialists, manufacturers, institutions and people to take pride in our own products;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from the year 1970 up to 1980 as “Buy Filipino Decade” and enjoin the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines which is initiating today a program toward this objective to take charge of the observance thereof in cooperation with other chambers of commerce and trade associations, and the business community in general to extend cooperation in its appropriate observance through annual activities climaxed every twentieth day of the month of July.
