[ Proclamation No. 628, November 14, 1969 ]

AUTHORIZING THE AMATEUR BOXING ASSOCIATION OF THE PHILIPPINES, INC., TO CONDUCT A NATION-WIDE FUND CAMPAIGN DURING THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 1, TO 30, 1969.

WHEREAS, the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, Inc., is the sole entity in the country dedicated to and working for the development and upliftment of Filipino boxers;

WHEREAS, the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, Inc., under the dynamic leadership of civic-spirited group of citizens has achieved, from its inception, accomplishments that, enhanced the prestige of the country as the cradle of boxing champions, as it trains, assists and encourages Filipino boxers in their quest for world laurels;

WHEREAS, through these patriotic endeavors, Filipino boxers in various olympiads and boxing bouts from around the world emerged equal if not better to the cream of the world’s best bringing in honor for the country and winning for the Philippines international recognition in the world of boxing;

WHEREAS, the next Asian Boxing Championships will be held in Manila in April 1970, with the Philippines as host country and the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, in charge of preparations;

WHEREAS, the prestige of the country is again at stake both as a host and participant in the boxing championships;

WHEREAS, to carry on its assigned task of developing Filipino boxers who will carry on the banner of the country in this upcoming event, and to make the tournament itself a big success, the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines. Inc., needs the financial and moral support of the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby authorize the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines, Inc., to conduct a nationwide fund campaign for a period of one month starting December 1 to 30, 1969. I call upon all citizens and residents of the Philippines, irrespective of nationality, race or creed, to assist in this worthy endeavor by contributing generously to the campaign. I further call upon all national, provincial, city and municipal officials and employees, as well as, on all school teachers and students throughout the country, to actively participate in and support this meritorious fund drive.
