[ Proclamation No. 558, May 19, 1969 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 15, 1969 TO FEBRUARY 28, 1970, AS THE OSAKA WORLD’S FAIR (EXPO 70) FUND DRIVE.

WHEREAS, participation in international fairs and expositions provides an effective means of encouraging and forging economic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and cultural ties among participating nations;

WHEREAS, there exists an urgent need for the Philippine Government to effectively project our culture and export products to the attention of foreign nations; and

WHEREAS, the Philippine Government through the joint undertaking of the Department of Commerce and Industry and the private sector has committed itself to participate in the Osaka World’s Fair (EXPO’70), covering culture, education, arts, science, entertainment, commerce and industry; and

WHEREAS, adequate financial support is a prerequisite for the success of this joint undertaking of the government and the private sector.1aшphi1

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period-from April 15, 1969 to February 28, 1970, as the Osaka World’s Fair (EXPO ’70) Fund Drive. The drive shall be under the joint auspice of the Department of Commerce and Industry and the Philippine Chamber of Industries, the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, the Philippine Chamber of Handicraft Industries, the Philippine Chamber of Wood Industries and the Chamber of Agriculture and Natural Resources. I call on all business enterprises throughout the Philippines, including government entities, to extend their unstinted support and cooperation to the fund drive so that Philippine participation in the Fair may be a success.
