[ Proclamation No. 547, April 22, 1969 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JULY 1, 1969, TO JUNE 30, 1970, AS PHILIPPINE NATIONAL SPORTS YEAR.

WHEREAS, sports is vital to youth development, health promotion and citizenship training;

WHEREAS, sports fosters pride, human fellowship and international understanding;

WHEREAS, sports development in the country has been hampered, because of lack of public involvement and support; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to focus attention on sports and, by this token, generate public enthusiasm, involvement and support to sports development;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from July 1, 1969 to June 30, 1970 as Philippine National Sports Year under the auspices of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation.
