DECLARING FEBRUARY 3 TO 9, 1969, AS MAHATMA GANDHI WEEK.

WHEREAS, this year, 1969, the Mahatma Gandhi Centenary will be celebrated in India as well as in other freedom-loving nations of the world;

WHEREAS, the people of the Philippines, sharing the world’s need to translate Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and aspiration in terms of everyday life, and believing in his teachings of peace, human fraternity and brotherhood, are participating in the centenary celebration of this great man; and

WHEREAS, there is need to set aside a period within which the ideals, aspirations and teachings of the illustrious world leader may be fittingly brought to the attention of the public through appropriate ceremonies or activities.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from February 3 to 9, 1969, as Mahatma Gandhi Week.1aшphi1
