[ Proclamation No. 474, October 10, 1968 ]
DECLARING 1968 AS NATIONAL ROADSIDES BEAUTIFICATION YEAR.
WHEREAS, trees play an important role in the economic and social welfare of the country and its people;
WHEREAS, trees are also indispensable in the enhancement of scenic beauty of the country, especially if planted along the roadsides;
WHEREAS, it is observed that most of the roadsides in the Philippines are bare, desolate and unsightly, and therefore need planting of trees as requisite for land-growing; and
WHEREAS, the prosecution of the nationwide roadside beautification necessitates not only the involvement of all government agencies but also of the people at large;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare 1968 as National Roadsides Beautification Year, and constitute the following Committee to implement this proclamation.
The Secretary of Public Works and Communications as Chairman.
Representatives of the following offices and organizations as members:
Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources
Department of National Defense
Department of Social Welfare
Presidential Arm on Community Development
Provincial Governors and Mayors League
Boy Scouts of the Philippines
Girl Scouts of the Philippines
School Volunteer Program Movement
