[ Proclamation No. 386, April 22, 1968 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 28 TO MAY 4, 1968, AS “RURAL BANK WEEK”.

WHEREAS, the government recognizes that self-sufficiency not only in rice and corn but also in other food staples is essential to national progress;

WHEREAS, such small financial institutions as rural banks have ably demonstrated their effectiveness as instruments in the attainment f increased food productivity;

WHEREAS, to underscore the role that rural banks play in nation building, the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines, in joint sponsorship with the Central Bank of the Philippines, traditionally conducts an annual convention of rural bankers with stress on a specialized function rendered by the banks for the socio-economic uplift of our people; and

WHEREAS, this year the annual convention of rural bankers will be held in Baguio City from May 2 to 4, 1968, with the theme: “”SELF-SUFFICIENCY IN FISH, LIVESTOCK, POULTRY, VEGETABLES AND FRUITS” and “DEVELOPMENT OF SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES”.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, in recognition of the vital contribution of the rural banking system to the achievement of a rising level of production, employment and real income do hereby declare the period from April 28 to May 4, 1968, as “RURAL BANK WEEK” under the auspices of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines and the Central Bank of the Philippines.1aшphi1
