[ Proclamation No. 290, October 12, 1967 ]

DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF OCTOBER, 1967, AS COOPERATIVE WEEK.

WHEREAS, the cooperative movement in the Philippines is now more than half a century old;

WHEREAS, cooperatives are voluntary organizations owned and democratically controlled to meet the social and economic needs of the members;

WHEREAS, cooperatives have proved effective and versatile tolls for combating usury, stabilizing prices, creating work opportunities and providing essential services for the people through self-help and mutual assistance; and

WHEREAS, these cooperatives not only promote the economic security of their members, but also strengthen democracy, encourage individual responsibility and the practice of true brotherhood;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby declare the third week of October, 1967 as “COOPERATIVE WEEK”, to be observed all over the Philippines. I enjoin our people in the observance of the week with appropriate ceremonies to remind them of the many benefits brought to them through cooperatives.1aшphi1
