[ Proclamation No. 265, September 20, 1967 ]

DECLARING THE FIRST MONDAY OF OCTOBER OF EACH YEAR AS UNIVERSAL CHILDREN’S DAY IN THE PHILIPPINES.

WHEREAS, our country is one of the staunches supporters of the UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN’S FUND and at the same time one of the best assisted countries in its programmes benefitting our mothers and children through projects on health, disease control, applied nutrition, education, and family and child welfare services; and

WHEREAS, the United Nations General Assembly has requested all countries to observe “a day of world-wide fraternity and understanding between children and of activity devoted to the promotion of the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the welfare of the children of the world, and to the strengthening and broadening of the efforts made by the United Nations in favour and on behalf of all children of the world”;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority vested in me by law, do hereby declare the first Monday of October of every year as Universal Children’s Day and authorize the UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN’S FUND in the Philippines, in cooperation with the various departments of our government which are directly or indirectly involved, to take charge of the celebration as befits the occasion.1aшphi1
