[ Proclamation No. 240, August 1, 1967 ]

DECLARING THURSDAY, AUGUST 3, 1967, AS A SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN THE ISLANDS OF NEGROS AND SIQUIJOR AND THE CITIES THEREIN.

WHEREAS, August 3, 1967, marks the TWENTY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY of the start of the resistance movement in Negros Island during World War II at a place now called Heroes Park on a hill in Barrio Buenavista, Municipality of Himamaylan, Province of Negros Occidental, Island of Negros, where a brave band of resistance fighters fired the first shots against the invaders;

WHEREAS, to the people of the Islands of Negros and Siquijor comprising the SEVENTH MILITARY DISTRICT during World War II, this date is symbolic of the defiant spirit of the resistance;

WHEREAS, this is the kind of spirit that our younger generation must imbibe and an example of courage that they should emulate for the good of our people and country;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority in me vested by Section 30 of the Revised Administrative Code, do hereby proclaim Thursday, August 3, 1967, as a special public holiday in the Islands of Negros and Siquijor and the cities therein.
