[ Proclamation No. 214, June 16, 1967 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM JUNE 18 TO 24, 1967, AS “NATIONAL INTEGRATION WEEK”.

WHEREAS, the desire to integrate and assimilate the cultural minorities, who until lately were referred to as Non-Christians, into the national way of life, goes back to Spanish colonial times;

WHEREAS, all efforts by the different government agencies since have fallen short of this goal;

WHEREAS, the Commission on National Integration, which was created in 1957 has made great strides towards their integration; and

WHEREAS, in support of the present Commission’s mission of accelerating the integration process, it is necessary to focus national attention on the cultural minorities, thus enhancing mutual understanding and respect for each others’ culture;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, in recognition of the necessity of effecting in a more rapid and complete manner the economic, social, moral, and political advancement of the cultural minories and their integration into the body politic, do hereby declare the period from June 18 to 24, 1967, as “National Integration Week”.
