[ Proclamation No. 42, June 7, 1966 ]
DECLARING SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 1966, AS BESSANG PASS DAY.
WHEREAS, June 14, 1945, marks the fall of Bessang Pass, a monument to the courage and patriotism of the Filipino soldiers and the civilian population during World War II; and
WHEREAS, the anniversary of said event is too close to Independence Day, June 12;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND E. MARCOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Saturday, June 18, 1966, as Bessang Pass Day. I call upon public officials and citizens of the Philippines to celebrate the day by holding appropriate programs in honor of our gallant men who fought in the Battle of Bessang Pass.
