BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 468, October 4, 1965 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM NOVEMBER 28 TO DECEMBER 27, 1965, AS PHILIPPINE SPORTS MONTH.

WHEREAS, the greatest asset of any nation is its human resources, and the promotion of health and well-being of the people through sports is one of the most important responsibilities of any government;

WHEREAS, the Republic of the Philippines, which used to be the leader of sports in Asia, is now lagging behind and needs a crash athletic program to regain its leadership in this important sphere of human activity;

WHEREAS, during the period from November 21, 1965, to January 2, 1966, there will be held in the Philippines the following big events: (1) the Second Asian Cycling Championship, (2) the Asian Baseball Conference, (3) the First Asian Amateur Tour of Luzon, (4) the First Philippine Sports Festival and Fiar, (5) Miss Asia Contest and (6) Miss Philippine Sports Popularity Contest; and

WHEREAS, the holding of these events provides an excellent opportunity to promote sports in this country and friendly ties with other nations;

Now, therefore, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from November 28 to December 27, 1965, as Philippine Sports Month under the auspices of the Philippine Amateur Athletic Association.
