BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 450, September 6, 1965 ]

DECLARING SEPTEMBER 8 OF EVERY YEAR AS SEATO DAY

WHEREAS, the South-East Asia Treaty Organization was born with the signing of the South-East Asia Collective Defense Treaty in Manila on September 8, 1954;

WHEREAS, the Alliance now emerges as the free world’s best hope to deter communist aggression, to bring about progress in peace and freedom, and to promote understanding among countries in the Asian region; and

WHEREAS, it is recognized that the strength of the Alliance emanates from the confidence of the people in it and from their adherence to its objectives and the principles behind its creation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare September 8 of every year as SEATO Day.

All elements, specially the student population and civic groups, are called upon to observe the day with appropriate activities to emphasize the significance of the occasion and to reaffirm the Filipino people’s abiding faith in the Alliance.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
