DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM AUGUST 2 TO 8, 1965, AS LAND REFORM WEEK

WHEREAS, for centuries past, the Filipino farmers progress has been hampered by the shackles of feudalism;

WHEREAS, on August 8, 1963, Filipino farmers found a new birth of freedom from the institutionalized restraints of the age-old share tenancy system with the signing of the Agricultural Land Reformed Code;

WHEREAS, the land reform program envisioned in the Code is by far the most realistic program which is capable of developing the proper socio-economic structure necessary for national economic and social progress; and

WHEREAS, in order to bring into focus the significance of the land reform program to the entire Filipino people, it is necessary to set aside a week to the end that our people may become more conscious of the importance of the program and of the work of the various governmental agencies charged with its prosecution and implementation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim the period from August 2 to August 8, 1965, as “Land Reform Week” under the auspices of the National Land Reform Council;

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
