[ Proclamation No. 399, May 15, 1965 ]

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM APRIL 16, 1965, TO APRIL 15, 1966, AS THRIFT YEAR.

WHEREAS, the prosecution of the nation’s socio-economic program demands, to an appreciable extent, the utilization of the people’s savings for the financing of enterprises vital to the economic uplift of the people:

WHEREAS, capital formation can be effectively attained through a rigorous campaign for savings among our people to accelerate our program for economic development; and

WHEREAS, it is desirable to draw the attention of the people to the importance of practising thrift for future security and as a matter of patriotic duty;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from April 16, 1965, to April 15, 1966, as Thrift Year under the sponsorship of the Central Bank, the Savings Banks Association (Philippines) and the Bankers Association of the Philippines. I call upon all the people to lend their cooperation and assistance in making the campaign success.1aшphi1
