[ Proclamation No. 397, May 15, 1965 ]

MAKING PUBLIC THE SUPPLEMENTARY CONVENTION ON THE ABOLITION OF SLAVERY, THE SLAVE TRADE, AND INSTITUTIONS AND PRACTICES SIMILAR TO SLAVERY, DONE AT THE EUROPEAN OFFICE OF THE UNITED NATIONS AT GENEVA, ON SEPTEMBER 7, 1956.

WHEREAS, the Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices similar to Slavery was concluded and signed at Geneva on September 7, 1956;

WHEREAS, the Senate of the Philippines, under its Resolution No. 41 adopted on May 21, 1964, concurred in the accession of said Convention pursuant to the pertinent provisions, of the Constitution;

WHEREAS, it is stipulated in the Convention that the same shall enter into force with respect to each State on the date of the deposit of the Instrument of Accession of that State in accordance with Article XIII of the Convention; and

WHEREAS, the Philippine Government has acceded to the Convention by the deposit with the Secretary-General of the United Nations of an Instrument of Accession on November 17, 1964;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it known that I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, have caused the said Supplementary Convention, a certified copy of which in the English text is hereto attached, to be made public to the end that the same and every article and clause thereof may be observed and fulfilled in good faith by the Republic of the Philippines and citizens thereof.
